Lone Star Nannies: Bucket List
For most people, the term “bucket list” conjures up images of personal achievements, foreign destinations, or skills yet to master, but you don’t have to travel beyond the borders of your hometown to create lifelong memories with your family. In fact, the hiking trail you discover a short drive from your house could hold more value to your child than the seven wonders of the world! That’s why this month we’ve compiled resources for creating a summer bucket list. Start from scratch and make your own list or explore links to fully developed calendars and blogs written by women who have blazed the trail for you. We hope the ideas below help you get started and try something new this summer! While you may be surprised by some of your kids’ greatest aspirations, you never have to guess what’s at the top of our bucket list - using our calling to help you pursue yours…We’re living the dream!
MAKE YOUR OWN BUCKET LIST
GETTING STARTED
Start by writing down a list of categories. What types of adventures are you looking forward to? Engage all of your senses - the warmth on your face as you enjoy a picnic by the lake, the smell of the perfect cookie you invented in the oven, or waking up to the sound of early morning birds after a campout in your backyard. In the midst of endless possibilities, categories help organize your thoughts. Here are a few examples of activities you might brainstorm for a “Food” category…
Try a new flavor of ice cream
Set up a lemonade stand
Make homemade popsicles
Starting a bucket list can also go hand in hand with the opportunity for a new challenge. You know your kids! If you want to challenge them to grow in certain areas of life this summer, having categories might also be a fun way to nudge them towards their goals. Challenge items on a bucket list could include…
Check out a library book at a higher reading level
Try a new sport
Memorize a poem
Learn how to braid
Some bucket list items can be shared with friends or members of your extended family. Check out this chart for an example…
Maybe this past school year was a challenge and doing random fun activities has its own value…or maybe this is the year you want a little more structure. It all goes back to purpose. What do your kids need this summer?
