Honoring the Hearts of Mothers: A Letter to Moms

Dear Mamas,

As we wind down the craziness and excitement of May I wanted to share something with you.

May is Maternal Mental Health Month and while that may not be circled on your calendar between school pickups, nap schedules, and dinner plans, I want to pause for a moment and talk directly to you.

Because I believe your mental health matters. Deeply.

Not just as a buzzword or a trend, but because the load you carry is heavy - even when it looks light to the outside world. It’s the invisible labor of remembering snack preferences, noticing when your child needs extra cuddles, navigating postpartum hormones, and juggling your own dreams and needs in the spaces between diaper changes and late-night rocking.

Motherhood is beautiful - and it’s also raw and complex.

Here in Argyle, Texas, we are surrounded by charm, family-friendly communities, and open skies. But even in its beauty, many moms feel isolated in their experiences. If you’ve ever wondered, “Is it just me?” - please hear this: It’s not just you.

You're not weak for feeling overwhelmed. You’re not failing because you don’t love every moment. You're not broken if your anxiety seems louder than your instincts sometimes.

You’re human. And you’re doing an incredibly hard thing.

As a local therapist and fellow mom, I see you. I work every day with women navigating the tender transition into motherhood - whether it’s your first baby or your fourth. The pressure to “bounce back,” to do it all with a smile, or to keep silent about the hard parts… it’s real. But so is the power of reaching out.

That’s why Rooted Healing Therapy, based right here in Argyle, exists. We offer therapy services specializing in postpartum mental health, anxiety, trauma, and the messy in-betweens that aren’t always talked about. We believe in creating safe, judgment-free spaces for mothers to be seen, heard, and supported - no matter where you are on your journey. We are here to support you!

Whether you’re experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety, having trouble sleeping, feeling lost in your identity, or simply needing someone to hold space for your story - you are not alone, and you do not have to do this alone.

What are some practical things that can help you?

What You Can Do:

1. Creating a Village - Even When It’s Hard Motherhood wasn’t meant to be done in isolation. Whether it’s a mom group, a postpartum yoga class, or just texting a friend who “gets it,” community is medicine. Need a starting point? Check out Fit4Mom Denton County, local library story times, or connect with others through Mom Walk Collective – DFW Chapter.

2. Moving Your Body - Not for ‘Bouncing Back’ but for Mental Health

natExercise is powerful for your mood and stress levels. That doesn’t mean hitting the gym at 5 a.m. — it can be a stroller walk at Harvest Park, gentle yoga in your living room, or dancing with your kids in the kitchen. Movement is about reconnecting with your body, not punishing it.

3. Asking for Help - And Accepting It

You don’t need to do everything. You shouldn’t have to. Whether it’s asking a friend to hold the baby so you can nap, hiring a sitter for an hour, or telling your partner exactly what you need — asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

4. Nourishing Your Body - Without the Pressure of Perfection Meal prepping can be a game-changer, especially when decision fatigue kicks in. Keep it simple: roast a tray of veggies, cook a batch of rice, prep a few protein options. And yes — ordering takeout is a form of survival too. Check out Mighty Meals or Snap Kitchen for local delivery options, or even lean into meal trains if you’re newly postpartum.

5. Prioritizing Mental Health - Because You Deserve to Feel Like You Whether you're facing postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or just feeling “off,” therapy can help. Rooted Healing Therapy specializes in supporting moms in every phase of motherhood — with a compassionate, trauma-informed approach. You don’t have to wait until things feel unbearable. Early support makes all the difference.

● Book that therapy session you’ve been putting off.

● Remind yourself daily: “I am worthy of care too.”

You are not alone, Mama. And you were never meant to mother alone.

Sincerely, A loving mother
